This weekend I am visiting my favorite big box design mecca, Ikea. As a a poor design student in college I adored Ikea from afar since alas we had no stores near Jacksonville or Tallahassee. Every time I went on a trip and I was anywhere near an Ikea I made a pit stop. You can always find something affordable and fun in this wonderfully massive store! If you have never visited Ikea nor been to their website I highly recommend it!  P.S. We have one in Orlando now and it is totally worth the drive to visit. 🙂

This continues to be a hot topic discussion with many people on both sides of the fence. No one can deny that social media has revolutionized the way we communicate and work. Here is a video I have linked before but it has been updated with current statistics and I think it is worth a look.

Watch the video below t learn about the DBA 98 biodegradable pen. With as many pens as designers use we should consider looking into using these.

I have been dreaming of this announcement for ages, Autodesk is finally releasing a native version of AutoCAD for Mac’s! I would highly recommend clicking here to sign up for notifications about release. Release is set for late fall and a trial version will be available to check out before you fully commit to purchasing.  Make sure you check out the overview tab on the Autodesk site as it includes some cool preview videos.

One of the things I like to do is read design blogs. It is a great way to keep up with what is happening in design not only with other designers, but creative people in other fields and industries as well. One of the blogs that is a great resource is Inspired Talk by Kravet. Kravet Fabrics is an excellent trade resource for fabrics that range from basic to high end luxury and contract grade. Take some time to check out their blog as well as their main website. Kravet is also active on Youtube, twitter and they have a new iphone App called edesign Assistant!  Go to their blog Inspired talk here.

{Via Paper Leaf}

Recently I came across this excellent color theory posted on Paper Leaf. The best part is you can download the poster in pdf format and save a copy! This is an excellent resource for all of you design newbies that are learning about color theory. Check it out here!

Many of you may have noticed that a lot of our “trade” magazines have folded in the last two years with the down turn of the economy. That being said these changes have prompted savvy professionals to begin creating digital magazines that can be viewed online.  I would like to share two examples with you Lonny Mag and the newest kid on the block Rue magazine. Both magazine contains great design articles and links and I encourage anyone to check them out. Lonny has an especialyl helpful feature where if you click on an image you can follow a link directly to that product or persons website!

So many of you are learning about color and all the implications it can have in a space. I came across the DLA Piper office by HofmanDujardin in the Netherlands that takes color changing to a whole other level.
